I love how practical, honest, and intentional each of these reflective questions are. Already have inspiration to encourage deeper conversations with co-workers and friends.

I find small talk so draining that I'm going to be consulting this list once or twice until I've got some stored up for next time I'm in a small-talk circle.

One time someone asked me, "How has your day been?" Instead of "How are you?" which---maybe it's my imagination---showed they cared.

I absolutely agree. And, yes! Even just switching the formatting of everyday questions can make all the difference.

Oh Rue 🥹 thank you so much for this! I crave deeper conversations with my friends but something I struggle with is knowing how to guide the conversation in that direction. Thank you❤️

This makes my heart so very happy, Briar. I’m the same way and gathering these questions has been such a help to me. It brings me such joy to know they may do the same for others. 🤎

Thank you so much for this post Rue! I think questions are so important for deep conversations, and I’ve been looking for some fresh ones recently. Now I just need the boldness to ask them 😅

My pleasure, Eva. I absolutely agree 🤎 I don’t know if it’s any help, but I gained a lot of boldness by first asking the ordinary questions (e.g. how are you, what do you spend your time doing, etc.) with their follow-up questions. It’s one of the less awkward initiations into conversation and still brings about depth. Seeing the results of good follow-up questions then gave me a lot more boldness to ask more upfront questions. However you go about it, I’m wishing you the best! And good for you for wanting to go deeper with questions. That’s a noble quest in my mind ☺️

Thank you for that advice, Rue! 💛💛

I’m going to try out some of those questions on my friends at school and church and see how it goes (typically our conversations are very surface level 😅)

Yeah recently I've held myself back from interrupting and just let my friends yap out their yaps that I can tell they so badly want to yap, and I think it makes them happy to just get all their happy yap out.

hehe that was funny.

This is absolutely lovely! I love good questions but don’t always have the boldness to ask them. This gives good perspective and a whole range of questions— from gentle to funny to probing— to ask! Thanks for sharing!

I’m so delighted to hear this, Brittney! I understand the challenge. Having a list of practiced questions really helps me find the boldness to ask them. ☺️
